Howard Walton, of Asbury Park, died peacefully in Ocean Grove on Nov. 28 at the age of 87.

He was born in Jersey City in 1928. He attended Columbia High School in Maplewood and Rutgers University in New Brunswick. Howard was a veteran of the U.S. Army and received a World War II Victory Medal for his service in the Pacific from 1946 to 1947. Not long after his return, he met Doris Jeanne O'Keeffe of Plainfield at Olympic Park in Essex County. They married and lived in central New Jersey before moving to the Jersey Shore in 1958. All who know Howard will recall his sense of humor, love of music (especially from the big-band era of the 1940s), hearty singing voice, enthusiastic support for his sports teams (including the New York Giants, Mets, Rangers and Rutgers), absolute adoration for his wife, and limitless love for his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
